Thammasat University Renews AMDA Program with the Department, Strengthening Academic Collaboration

The Department of Chemistry at National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) and the Bioenergy and Biochemical Refinery Technology Program (BEB Program) at Thammasat University, Thailand, officially renewed their Agreement yesterday (December 19), marking a new milestone in their academic collaboration. This renewed agreement not only continues the strong partnership established in 2021 under the Agreement on Accelerated Master Degree Admission Program but also expands the scope of collaboration to include student exchange programs, dual-degree education, and research exchanges between faculty members, laying a stronger foundation for academic and research cooperation.

Over the past three years, four students from Thammasat University in Thailand have successfully completed the AMDA program and graduated, while one student is currently in their second year of the Master's program in the Department of Chemistry at National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU). During this visit, the delegation from Thammasat University had the opportunity to tour the Department of Chemistry's laboratories and teaching facilities, gaining deeper insights into the department's strengths in education and research. This visit has laid a stronger foundation for future collaboration between the two institutions.

Prof. Chanatip Samart, Chairperson of the Department of Chemistry at Thammasat University, emphasized the importance of enabling students to apply their knowledge in practical settings. To this end, the program includes opportunities for students in their fourth year to intern with companies or pursue studies at overseas universities or graduate schools. Prof. Samart noted that past collaborations with NSYSU's Department of Chemistry have been highly rewarding for students and expressed hope for continued and diversified forms of exchange in the future.

During the signing ceremony, Dean Jyh-Tsung Lee of NSYSU and representatives from Thammasat University reflected on the history and achievements of their collaboration. From the initial dual-degree program, the partnership has grown through regular exchanges and shared initiatives, continually deepening academic ties. Following the ceremony, both parties discussed future directions for collaboration, emphasizing the following key areas:

  1. Expansion of Student Exchange Programs
Both institutions aim to encourage more undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students to participate in exchange programs, providing them with opportunities to engage in overseas internships and research to enhance their skills and global perspectives.
  2. Support for Dual-Degree Students
Additional resources will be allocated to support students in the dual-degree program, ensuring that more talented students have the opportunity to study and conduct research in Taiwan.
  3. Faculty Research Collaboration
Both parties will strengthen academic interactions and collaborations between faculty members through international conferences and joint research projects, exploring further opportunities for experimental research and fostering the production of cross-border research outcomes.

The successful conclusion of this signing ceremony signifies a significant step forward in the international academic collaboration between NSYSU and Thammasat University. Both sides look forward to working together to create more possibilities in education and research. This event would not have been possible without the dedicated support of many faculty members and administrative staff. Special thanks are extended to Dean Jyh-Tsung Lee, Chairperson Shuchen Hsieh, Emeritus Professor Chi-Wi Ong, Professors Jentaie Shiea, Lan-Chang Liang, Chun-Hu Chen, Wei-Lung Tseng, Associate Professor Cheng-chau Chiu, Assistant Professors Vincent Wang, Tsz-Fai Leung, Kwan Yin Cheung and PhD student Jaturon Kumchompoo.
