September 21st is designated as "National Disaster Prevention Day." This year, the event featured a joint drill involving multiple agencies, including the Kaohsiung City Fire Department, National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU), the Chemical Substance Management Bureau of the Environmental Protection Administration, the Environmental Protection Bureau, Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology, and Kaohsiung Medical University. The drill simulated various disaster scenarios to enhance response capabilities.
Key highlights of the drill included:
Earthquake Drill: In the simulated earthquake scenario, students in laboratories followed the "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" protocol to quickly protect themselves and evacuate in an orderly manner, effectively minimizing injuries.
Chemical Hazard Drill: Focusing on the risks of chemical leaks, this scenario emphasized the importance of using Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and hazard identification cards for proper recognition and response, highlighting the critical role of chemical inventories.
Water-Reactive Substance Laboratory Fire Drill: In the simulated lab fire, the Gushan Fire Brigade utilized specialized chemical fire trucks to showcase advanced firefighting techniques and post-incident procedures. Firefighters skillfully used firefighting equipment to conduct rescue operations and provide logistical support, stressing the importance of emergency response in high-risk environments.
