Overview

Our master program aims to cultivate chemistry-related interdisciplinary talents equipped with theoretical and practical knowledge and experiences. Our core courses include organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry and analytical chemistry, and feature interdisciplinary biochemistry, nanomaterials, instrument development, surface chemistry and drug synthesis.

NSYSU is located in Kaohsiung, the key industrial sites in Taiwan, making it a geographical advantage of developing diverse technology connecting to local communities. With the rapid development of precision industry and Biotechnology Industry in Kaohsiung, it provides the environment of wider job market for our graduates.

Interdisciplinary Integration

The College of Science has a first rate research center for cross-field and data science research. Colleagues are encouraged to form cross-field cooperation research groups. The research of the faculty, including drug synthesis, nanomaterial synthesis, cell Photographs, nano-catalysts, battery material development, two-dimensional material applications, sugar science synthesis and applications, food safety testing and environmental pollutant testing, have stellar performances. Therefore, in addition to conducting cross-domain research with teachers in the college, teachers in the department also actively cooperate with other domestic and foreign schools.

Integration of resources

The followings are research centers that cooperated with our department actively:

(1)Rapid Screen Research Center for Toxicology and Biomedicine (RSRCTB)

(2)Aerosol Science Research Center (ASRC)

(3)Center for Green-Energy Key Materials Research

Collaboration between industry and school

The department is actively expanding collaboration between industry and school. At present, many teachers have carried out industry-academia cooperation plans and patent applications. Corporate visits and industry insiders’ speech are regularly arranged to let students understand the problems the industry is facing, and to promote the development of industry-academia cooperation based on academic research results.

International competitiveness

In response to the school’s promotion of internationalization and fostering students to become talents with an international vision, the department has added English-taught program, regularly held international conferences, recruited internationally renowned scholars, hired foreign post-doctoral researchers, enrolled international students and subsidized them to join exchange program and participate International seminars. The main achievements of internationalization of our departments are as follows:

(1)Actively recruit international students for doctoral programs. At present, international students in the doctoral program account for about 55% of the doctoral students in our department.

(2)Encourage bachelor and graduate students to participate in exchange programs and international conferences.

(3)Subjects taught in English are offered.

(4)Actively recruit international talents. With the support of the school and the Ministry of Science and Technology, we are actively recruiting foreign post-doctoral researchers to strengthen the research energy of the department.

Industrial Cooperation and Teaching Planning

The elective courses, including biochemistry, materials chemistry, polymer chemistry, catalyst chemistry, nanomaterials and structures, bioanalytical chemistry, industrial mass spectrometry, solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and imaging, are provided for seniors and graduates of the department. Besides, many English-taught courses are offered to encourage students to strengthen their ability in both English language and their professions. The research topics of bachelor and graduate students are mainly oriented towards the cultivation of scientific research talents. They mainly focus on liquid crystal materials, nanoparticles, sensors, drug design, biomolecular analysis, environmental and material component analysis, polymer synthesis, and nanotechnology. In addition, lecture courses are offered, in which outstanding graduates from the department are invited to share their workplace experience and analyze the current situation of the industry. We also arrange visits to enterprises in order to increase interaction with the industry and opportunities for internships.
